Light Yellow 911 road car in the Tuthill Porsche workshop

Smart Light Yellow early ’72 911T embodies the lightweight sports purpose approach

Here’s a great little Light Yellow 911 which was a recent visitor to the Tuthill Porsche road car workshop. Keen eyes will spot that it conforms to our philosophy of lightweight additions to make a more interesting driving experience and the owner certainly enjoys it as Stuttgart intended.

Built towards the end of 1972, this RHD 911T was delivered here in the UK in January 1973, which makes it an “early’ T model. These cars were fitted with the 2.4-litre flat six engine on carburettors, producing a gently understated 140 horsepower. So-called ‘late’ 2.4s were fitted with the early Bosch K-Jet injection, still with the same 140 bhp power output but more complex intake and emissions controls, which would be carried over into the later impact bumper cars to meet emerging clean air regulations across Porsche’s international markets.

The Light Yellow T was supplied with the factory ‘S upgrade’ pack, which included cosmetic trim parts, but also the sports seats and Fuchs light alloy wheels. The car was maintained by just three owners from new before the current custodian obtained the car several years ago. While it has been lightly modified from the original spec, it is an interesting example of an original UK RHD car and as such it is quite a rare 911. It is always a delight to have enigmatic classic Porsche road cars in our workshop!
