Tuthill Porsche claims podium finish in first-ever 2.0L Cup

A podium finish for Tuthill Porsche and fastest race lap in the first-ever 2.0L Cup weekend, held at Spa Francorchamps

Tuthill Porsche enjoyed a terrific start to the all-new 2.0L Cup at Spa Francorchamps, with its cars topping the timesheets in practice and claiming a podium finish and fastest race lap in the main event.

The inaugural 2-litre cup weekend was held at Spa Francorchamps as part of Peter Auto’s Spa Classic weekend. Driving David Huxley’s Tuthill-built 1965 Porsche 911, Nigel Greensall set a fastest time in first practice of 3:02.441: over half a second up on the second quickest car. Qualifying also went well for the number 59 Porsche, which qualified on the second row of the grid.

When the flag dropped on Sunday, Greensall soon took the lead of the race, setting the pace out front until the driver change on lap fifteen. As the race progressed, the weather deteriorated. Heavy rain and hailstones deluged the circuit, the safety car was deployed and the race was eventually red-flagged. Huxley/Greensall finished second overall, also claiming the fastest race lap of 3:02.586.

“This has been a perfect weekend,” enthused Richard Tuthill. “Finishing on the podium in the first-ever 2.0L Cup race is a great result for all of our team: well done to David and Nigel. Their fastest race lap is apparently the fastest race lap ever done by an FIA 2-litre 911 around Spa, which is another reason to celebrate.

“Colin Paton’s 2-litre has had a less satisfactory weekend after getting a tap from another competitor, but it’s been an otherwise trouble-free run and the car will be back. The best news of all is the resounding success of this first 2.0L Cup weekend. The atmosphere has been simply incredible and everyone on the organising team can be proud of what they have created. We can’t wait to get back on track in Dijon, where even more of our cars will be racing.”

Several great videos have been shared since the weekend: our first one below shows the early battle for the lead from Nigel’s point of view. The next 2.0L Cup event will be run as part of the Peter Auto Grand Prix de l’Age d’Or at Dijon from June 8-10. We look forward to another great racing weekend!
