Tuthill Almeras Porsche 911 Build

Another Rally Car Build in progress

The Monte Carlo Rally is an intense mixture of blood, sweat and tears (usually frozen ones). A Monte win remains a major prize today but, back in the late ’70s, when manufacturers had a real presence in the sport, winning the Monte was a very big deal.

Porsche 911s claimed 3 consecutive victories from 1968 to 1970: first at the hands of Vic Elford, then twice with Tuthill friend, Bjorn Waldegard at the wheel. It would be another 8 years before the 911 would once again take the top step.

In 1978, Jean Pierre Nicholas, driving for the independent Almeras team, won the rally in a 911 SC. Less than two minutes separated JP’s Porsche from second place man Jean Ragnotti in the Renault 5 Alpine. The Monte Carlo SC had a timeless look, which we are replicating on our new hot rod Porsche build.

The last wide-arched 911 SC we built struck a real chord with enthusiasts: it’s high time we did it again. We’ll update the site with more pictures in the coming weeks!
