Monte Carlo Historic Rally stops off at Banbury

Safari 911s support Monte Carlo competitors at the official time passage in Banbury

The return of our cars from the 2017 East African Safari Classic Rally happily coincided with the arrival in Banbury of cars taking part in the 2018 Monte Carlo Historic Rally. We were delighted to send four cars straight from the container to Banbury’s market square to mark the rally cars stop-off en route to Monaco after a 50-year absence.

The day began at 10am, our fearsome foursome joined a plethora of other cars on display from local rally teams including Prodrive. The Monte Carlo cars started arriving from mid-morning and were lined up on either side of Bridge Street in the centre of town, which had been specially closed for the event.

Banbury was an official time passage for this year’s Monte Carlo Historic. As the clock reached the designated time of 13:30, the cars set off at 1-minute intervals, en route to the south of France.

The 2018 Monte Carlo Historic Rally enjoyed start points right across Europe. No less than 18 cars started at Oslo in Norway, with twelve cars starting in Glasgow. Reims, Bad Homburg, Barcelona and Monaco were also set as start points for the rally.

The event took place from January 31 – February 7th. The eventual winners were Italy’s Aghem/Cumino in their Lancia Fulvia. Behind them was the Greek crew of Delaportas/Moustakas in their Mark 1 Golf GTI, with the Zastava 1100 of the Polish Postawka team in third position.
