The Morocco Historic Rally is one of our favourite events and we’re delighted to be supporting Federico Polese on the 2020 edition. His Safari 911 is currently in preparation for the rally, which runs from March 23rd to 28th.
The 2020 Morocco Historic Rally is the eleventh edition of this excellent event. Run over six legs from bases in the port city of Essaouira on Morocco’s Atlantic coast and the famous medina of Marrakesh, the rally covers a total distance of some 1,400 kilometres, more than 500 of which are competitive stage kms across 36 special stages.
With several Morocco outings under his belt, Federico Polese is no stranger to the North African classic rally and greatly enjoys the fast, open landscapes and event camaraderie. The Safari 911 is well suited to the Saharan terrain, but it needs a bit of work before heading back to Morocco.
The car’s last outing was in Alitalia colours at the hands of Eugenio Amos and Roberto Mometti on last year’s East African Safari Classic. 2019 was a very tough year in East Africa due to flooding, so the car arrived back needing a full strip and rebuild.
The containers with our Safari cars arrived back in Wardington on February 6th. Once the containers had been unloaded, Federico’s 911 was immediately pressure washed and stripped back to a bare shell. Once stripped, the shell was mounted on a rotisserie to allow it to be rotated through 360 degrees. It then had a second deep clean and was rolled into our fabrication shop for the metalwork repairs to begin.
The shell needs local repairs in several areas, including one front corner where the car lost an entire section of front suspension in a stage. A tight schedule before the 911 has to leave the UK means that time is of the essence! The team is working hard to get repairs done, so the car can be sent to our paint shop for a refresh, before coming back into the main workshop for reassembly.
