Today is the funeral of Paolo Faldini, our great friend in Porsche, who died in Monaco on New Year’s Day.
Paolo epitomised the gentleman racer. Always a competitive spirit, he took as much enjoyment from racing as he did from being part of the movement, and experiencing the highs and lows that inevitably run with historic motorsport.
Never one for the limelight, few photos of Paolo fully express his humanity, but this one gives a hint. Seen above on the left, Paolo drove with Tuthill Porsche alongside X-Games superstar, Travis Pastrana on the 2011 Safari, and the self-effacing Swiss-Italian and humble American got along perfectly.
We’ll remember our friend Paolo always with a smile and a glint of silver lining. If there is a Porsche heaven, no doubt he is up there with a Safari 911, an unspoiled African rally stage and a queue of willing co-drivers.
