Travis Pastrana hits Trouble on the Safari Classic Rally

Few headaches for our man Travis Pastrana today, after a few days tearing through Tanzania began to take its toll.

A damper problem on the first stage of the day was the start of Travis’ trial. Service was exceptionally busy, with work to do on most of our nine cars, but we replaced the damper and headed to stage 8.

More trouble on 8 with brakes, but 9 was the champion, when Travis lost a wheel. From his website: “the wheel fell off and we had to drive the last 60 kilometres on three wheels. I rode on the back part of the way to take some weight off the front, while Fabrizia drove the car.”

Tomorrow is Travis’ last day on the 2011 Safari. After that, Patrick Njiru will take over the car and see it to the finish. He’ll have his work cut out for him: Travis finished in 41st position today, almost 90 minutes behind Waldegard in another one of our cars. Number 24 currently lies in 24th position: 2 hours 44 minutes off the lead.
