Wardington, 3 June, 2013 – Dessie Nutt shone at this weekend’s Jim Clark Memorial Rally as his maturity and skill behind the wheel of a Tuthill-prepared Porsche 911 rewarded the Irishman with his first class victory of 2013.
Staged in the Scottish Borders, the Jim Clark Memorial Rally was the third round of the British Historic Rally Championship (BHRC) and a new addition to the historic calendar for 2013. This year’s two-day rally also celebrated the 50th anniversary of Jim Clark – who hailed from the area – winning his first world title in Formula One.
Nutt was the sole representative of Tuthill Porsche over the weekend and made his Oxfordshire-based team proud as he dominated his class and fought off fellow Porsche rival Rikki Proffitt. A class victory has helped Nutt slash Proffitt’s overall class lead to 12 points, a margin that Nutt will be looking to close even further when he contests the Severn Valley Stages later this month.
“The fog on Friday night helped me hugely,” explained class winner Nutt. “We took about three minutes from Rikki on those opening stages and I was in a strong position going into Saturday. Rikki fought back on Saturday but the time we had taken on Friday meant were able to control our pace throughout the day. The overnight rain on Friday makes for tough handling but the Porsche didn’t miss a beat and the class win the icing on the cake.”
Tuthill Porsche director, Richard Tuthill, said: “Dessie did another stellar job over the weekend. The Jim Clark is a tricky rally with a mix of long straights and hidden crests but Dessie controlled the Porsche perfectly and very much deserves his class win. He won the championship back in 2009 so there’s no doubt that he’s a talented driver, but Dessie’s experience with a Tuthill Porsche makes him a formidable match against Rikki and his other competitors.”
Round four of the British Historic Rally Championship will take place in Worcestershire on Saturday 15 June as the crews take on the Severn Valley Stages.
