Tuthill Porsche 911 takes Third on World Cup Rally

Podium finish for the Tuthill Porsche Wardington-built 911 rally car on the London to Cape Town marathon rally

The amazing Joost Van Cauwenberge/Jacques Castalein Porsche 911 has taken a wonderful third place on the London to Cape Town Rally.

Built by Tuthill Porsche at Wardington, the two wheel-drive 911 from 1973 was lead home by two almost-new four wheel-drive cars: a Subaru Impreza and a Toyota HiLux. The next classic car past the flag was the Porsche 912 driven by Alastair Caldwell and navigated by Hayden Burvill: both are good friends of Tuthill Porsche and we offer warm congratulations on their solid sixth place finish.

Joost and Jacques drove a perfectly paced event to seal their podium finish. The result bodes well for the future competition of the car: who knows, perhaps we’ll see it at another Morocco International Historic or maybe even the historic Monte Carlo! I looking forward to speaking with the Belgian crew on their return to Europe.

Francis has yet to cross the line but started the day in 22nd place. A blown Turbo for the HiLux cost them some time this week, but it will be good to see driver Rene Declercq and Tuthill Senior cross the line safely.
