Tuthill Porsche Kenya Shakedown

Tuthill 911s warm up in the African Bush. Tuthill Porsche is in place in Kenya, gearing up for the Safari rally start

The Safari Rally is finally here! Race4Change and Tuthill Porsche are in place in Kenya, and we’re gearing up for the rally start on November 19th, where our lead driver and long time Porsche legend, Björn Waldegård, will attempt to be the first Porsche 911 ever to win Safari Rally, in a Tuthill-built Porsche.

A number of drivers will run for Race4Change, the team running three Tuthill 911s on the event. Alongside Björn, there is X Games legend, Travis Pastrana, Kenyan national champion (and 2009 Safari winner) Ian Duncan, local hero Patrick Njiru and Steve Funk, top man at Race4Change.

Next to the drivers are navigators Mathias Waldegård for Björn, Fabrizia Pons of Michèle Mouton/Audi Quattro and Paris Dakar fame for Travis and Patrick and Kenyan star Andrew Doig: in the car with Funk and the electric Mary-Ellen Iskenderian, Chief Executive of R4C microfinance partner, Women’s World Banking.

Every one of these people is a success in their own right, so as a team should be quite wonderful for Race4Change. That said, the Race4Change squad still needs your support. Racing to raise awareness of and finance for women’s empowerment in Africa, every cent you can afford to share goes straight to them, plus it is tax deductible in the USA!

I’ll be posting updates at least once a day until the rally finish on November 28th. Keep in touch, share the stories with your social networks and encourage all to donate to Race4Change. There are a few tools on the R4C website to give $5 from your US cellphone, and Paypal and Facebook ‘simply giving’ links that make it really easy to share a few bucks. Your gifts WILL help wipe out at least some poverty, and encourage enterprise in East Africa: this is the Race4Change guarantee.

We love Kenya, and East Africa. These are amazing people: our brothers and sisters under a distant sun. Enjoy our rally and help them advance their lot in life: sharing the love is what the world is all about.
