Tuthill Porsche on Mid-Wales Stages Rally

Dessie Nutt in Tuthill Porsche 911 classic rally car fights to the finish on the 2013 British Historic Rally Championship opening round

Porsche 911s fought all the way to the chequered flag on the 2013 Mid Wales Stages last weekend, with a Tuthill Porsche in the thick of it. Back in fighting form following a restful winter layoff, Dessie Nutt threw down the gauntlet to Porsche rival Rikki Proffitt, and a battle royale ensued.

Fresh from testing on the previous Friday, Dessie took a win on the first stage, finishing five seconds faster on an eleven-minute stage after his rival had a moment. This is what’s called neck and neck! Stage 2 again fell to Nutt: the Irishman charging hard to hold his lead.

Stage 3 was a table turner: the Yellow Porsche suffered a slow puncture and lost twenty seconds over the twenty-minute sprint. The new leader lent a hand with fitting fresh rubber, before both cars headed back to the woods for the closing two stages.

Stage 4 was a flyer for Dessie as he sliced seven seconds off Proffitt’s lead, putting the cars on even-stevens before the final countdown, with Nutt’s nose just in front. When the cars took the flag, it was P1 for Proffitt, barely six seconds ahead after 63 minutes of competitive rallying.

Well done Dessie on an amazing performance – we’re proud of you! Congratulations to the winner and here’s to a fabulous season of rallies ahead.
