Tuthill Porsche on Safari Challenge

Two Tuthill Porsche 911s are driving in the Safari Challenge rally tour

Two pairs of intrepid Tuthill Porsche-driving adventurers are currently rallying from Madrid to Marrakesh in the 2015 Safari Challenge. Our photo shows the 911s just before tackling the famous North African desert: we’re pleased to report that both Porsches emerged unscathed!

Organised by the Endurance Rally Association, the ten-day event covers more than 3,500 kilometres across a mix of terrain including full desert sand stages. Sand is a tricky surface for even the most experienced drivers, but our cars have experienced no problems so far.

The beautiful 1965 Porsche 911 of Gavin and Diana Henderson is the most senior of the two cars. This superb Champagne Yellow 2-litre was built here at Wardington ahead of this year’s Trans-America Rally and ran most reliably throughout that event. Madrid to Marrakesh is a much shorter rally, but there are still a few days left to go and anything can happen on marathon drives.

Edmund Peel and Sara MacDonald are tackling the rally in Edmund’s ‘new’ 911. The Safari Challenge is the debut outing for this smart 911 rally car recently bought from Tuthill Porsche, but its driver has plenty of experience on extended touring events. We’re expecting Tuthill reliability all the way to the flag: anything less will be most disappointing!

The rally finishes in Marrakesh later this week. You can follow the Safari Challenge rally reports on the Endurance Rally website. Good luck to all the competitors!
