Two out of Three for Tuthill Porsche in Sweden

The Tuthill Porsche 911 Turbo rally car finished fifth in class on the Swedish Midnight Sun Rally

Midnight Sun Rally is done for another year. Sweden and the rally management delivered another great event, with close racing through wonderful countryside.

We were running three cars on the rally: a 2.8 RS-bodied car on high butterflies, a 2.9-litre on low butterflies and our just-finished 911 Turbo/930 rally car. Drivers were Stig Blomqvist, Björn Waldegård and David von Shinckel.

Stig was quick from the start, setting fastest time in class on stage 4. Björn was less happy with his car early on but, after a torsion bar change at the end of day one, he settled in and pushed to regain lost ground.

For three days, our team pushed as hard as possible. Local hero Tom Damberg in his exceptional Volvo 164 drove a perfect rally to win the class and event. Damberg’s class win was less than two minutes ahead of Stig, with Björn just ten seconds behind. Stig and Björn were overall fifth and sixth respectively.

The Tuthill 911 Turbo finished fifth in class, but don’t let that fool you. Richard describes the car as ‘a new dawn’ and driver David loved it. We’re sure we’ll build another one!
