Tuthill Porsche heads for WRC Rallye Deutschland

Tuthill Porsche 997 R-GT on the 2015 WRC Rallye Deutschland with François Delecour and Dominique Savignoni in the FIA R-GT Cup.

It’s WRC Rallye Deutschland next weekend: round nine of this year’s World Rally championship and the third round of the 2015 FIA R-GT Cup. The Tuthill Porsche 997 R-GT car is entered on the event, with the familiar driver pairing of François Delecour and Dominique Savignoni.

Only two R-GT cars will compete in WRC Rallye Deutschland: our Porsche 997 GT3 Cup and the Porsche 997 GT3 RS 4.0 of Romain Dumas. Delecour is ahead in the championship and, while we can afford to give away a few points, that won’t do for François. Expect fireworks on a similar scale to the fun we had in Ypres last time out.

Rallye Deutschland 2015

Rallye Deutschland was first held in 1982, and ran as part of the European Rally Championship for twenty years before joining the WRC in 2002. Citroën won Rally Deutschland for nine years on the trot before Ogier, Sordo and Neuville took it in turns to spoil Citroën’s party.

Germany is seen as the toughest Tarmac event in the second half of the WRC calendar. The rally lasts four days from August 20-23, but our Rally Germany will take more than a week. The Tuthill Porsche truck set out for Germany on Saturday and arrives in rally HQ at Trier this evening to start setting up. Monday is a test day and then we have recce days, shakedown, official start and the three-day rally.

Rallye Deutschland offers a range of challenges for the drivers. Friday starts with narrow, bumpy roads through Mosel Valley vineyards along the Belgium and Luxembourg borders. Saturday is concentrated around the military test arenas of Baumholder and Panzerplatte. Sunday then returns to the countryside, as the rally reaches its conclusion.

Tuthill Porsche Rally Testing pre-WRC Rallye Deutschland

We are taking part in an official WRC test just outside Valdenz tomorrow (Monday August 17) along with a number of other WRC competitors. From there, Francois and Dominique will do a two-day recce before the shakedown in Konz on Thursday.
