Porsche 904 pre-Goodwood Members’ Meet rebuild

Classic Porsche 904 refreshed ahead of 2020 historic racing season

Following a busy race calendar in recent years, David Clark’s Porsche 904 Carrera has received a significant refresh during the off-season.

Garagemate to David’s 2-litre 911 race car, which has competed at several 2.0L Cup events in recent years and also served as the Safety Car at the Goodwood Revival a couple of years ago, the 904 has taken part in many prestigious events across David’s ownership, and welcomed some very famous drivers, including Derek Bell. This year, the 904 Carrera will be seen at races including Classic Le Mans and the 2020 Goodwood Members’ Meeting on March 28th and 29th.

2020 Goodwood Members’ Meeting

The Members’ Meeting is the opening weekend on the Goodwood motorsport calendar. Recreating the atmosphere and camaraderie of the original BARC meetings held at Goodwood through the 1950s and ’60s, Goodwood Road Racing Club members can access all paddock areas across the two days of thrilling historic racing and demonstrations.

The entry lists also feature more modern machines never previously raced at Goodwood. Additionally, food markets and a large-scale outdoor celebration on Saturday evening, with live music and stunning fireworks, make every Members’ Meeting a weekend to remember.

Work on the 904 over winter has included a full strip, suspension rebuild and crack test. It has just been completely rewired and many other components have been replaced. The engine was rebuilt last year and has just gone back in the car, so it is now ready for a pre-season test later this week.

One other Tuthill regular who is testing at Goodwood ahead of an appearance at the upcoming Members’ Meeting is Richard Cook. The 2019 2.0L Cup Gentleman Drivers’ champion will kickstart his 2020 season at the Members’ Meet in the 1965 2-litre 911 and his vintage Cobra.

Update 17/03: the Goodwood Members’ Meeting has now been postponed. Fingers remain crossed for future events in 2020.
