Porsche Drivers Show their Skill in Morocco

Michele Mouton in her ascendancy on the Morocco Historic in a Tuthill Porsche 911 rally car.

Anyone into historic rallying who considered entering Morocco and decided against it must now be kicking themselves. The event is electric, and competition intense. The stages are beautiful: fast, technical and demanding of all a driver’s experience: the exact combination that pushes cream to the top.

Gregoire de Mevius leads the event from our own Geoff Bell. Battling her way back up the leader board is the magnificent Michele Mouton, in another Tuthill 911. The disappointment of day one’s cracked brake caliper long behind her, Michele is positively flying, and pushing the leader to the limit.

Having set the fastest overall time on day three, Michele brought all of her focus to bear on day four, intent on keeping P1 under maximum pressure. De Mevius set fastest time on Stage 1, then Michele set fastest on the next, 4 seconds quicker over a 68-minute stage. The final stage of the day was a lesson from Daddy: Bjorn Waldegard going an astonishing 1 minute 37 seconds faster than De Mevius over a 49-minute stage, with Michele just five seconds back, in third.

No one is resting on their laurels in this seriously challenging rally: it is all for the win. Morocco must surely be en route to ‘unmissable’ status. This is really great stuff!
