Tuthill Porsche extends its range of high-performance competition aluminium billet brake calipers for the classic Porsche 911. The latest Tuthill caliper is a four-piston design that increases clamping force compared to standard Porsche calipers and works on any corner of the car.
The new brake calipers complement Tuthill’s existing range of billet aluminium calipers used extensively on road and rally car builds. These brake calipers come with the ultimate endorsement of performance and reliability, as they were used on the winning car in the 2015 East African Safari Classic Rally.
“Ten days on the world’s toughest rally is the ultimate test for any car part,” says Tuthill Chief Engineer, Graham Moore. “Our latest brake calipers proved completely reliable over many thousands of rally kilometres, even through the deep mud and severe flooding which dominated the rally’s early stages. All of our drivers, including former world champion and rally winner, Stig Blomqvist, were delighted with the performance from our latest braking system.”
Designed and manufactured in the UK, the new brake calipers are machined from aerospace-grade T6 plate aluminium alloy. The stainless steel pistons are optimised for the Porsche 911 master cylinder and all fluid transfer takes place inside the caliper body for maximum reliability.
The calipers feature a double bleed nipple design, so can be installed on any corner. Total caliper weight is just 1.9 kilos, saving a huge amount of unsprung weight versus the standard Porsche caliper.
Bigger brake discs are available, but the calipers can be used with standard discs if needed. They also fit under 15″ Fuchs wheels, so are suitable for air-cooled 911s of all ages. Note that these calipers are not suitable for use with Turbo/930 rear arms.
