Four Tuthill 911s in Top Eight on Southern Cross Safari

Four Tuthill Porsche 911s finish in the top eight on the Southern Cross Safari

Four Tuthill Porsche 911s started the recent Southern Cross Safari East African endurance rally and all four crossed the finish line in the top eight. Despite some truly torrential rain on the event and one crew embarking on an African rally for the every first time, the crews completed the rally despite very difficult conditions.

The rally entry list included everything from early Bentleys to Aston Martins, Mercedes, classic four-wheel drive machines and our four 911s. Crews faced twenty tough regularity sections and challenging speed tests on rugged gravel roads across a 3,600-kilometre route.

Our regular competitors established themselves amongst the frontrunners early on, while newcomers Steve and Jenny Verrall played their attack in gently, as they debuted their newly-completed 1965 2-litre 911 rally car on the Southern Cross Safari. One of Francis’ earliest rally cars, the 911 had been through a complete rebuild at Wardington. Read the full story of the build here.

By the first rest day on day five, the Verralls had made up five places. They continued to climb up the order until they eventually finished fourth overall and first in class: a terrific debut result.

Full reports from the rally are available on the Rally the Globe website. Congratulations to all of our competitors on a tremendous effort.
